BRINGING BOXING BACK TO ITS ROOTS

In New York, Wallace Matthews reports that MSG President
Dave Checketts and MSG's John Cirillo are looking to "plunge in
head first" to bring big-time boxing back to the Garden.
Tentatively scheduled: Oscar De La Hoya vs. an unknown on
December 15; Roy Jones Jr.-Buddy McGirt on January 12; and George
Foreman-Michael Moorer in late February-early March. Checketts
and Cirillo believe they sell blocks of Foreman tickets to
corporations in exchange for Foreman making promotional
appearances. Foreman's appearance fee is said to be $16M, with
$6M guaranteed from the gate also a likely requirement (N.Y.
POST, 9/14).
