Nagano '98 organizers have asked the IOC for a bigger share
of sponsorship money to offset the loss of earnings on TV rights
fees because of the higher value of the yen, according to KYODO
NEWS. Under the IOC's "TOP" sponsorship program, TOP-4 will
cover the Nagano '98 and the Sydney 2000 (KYODO, 6/15). A re-
arranged sponsorship deal could leave less money for Sydney,
according to AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE. Dick Pound, Chair of the
IOC's Commission for New Sources of Financing, said they would
study Nagano's request (AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE, 6/14). KYODO
NEWS reports that this is the first time the JOC has suffered a
deficit since its independence from the Japan Amateur Sports
Assoc in '91. The JOC reported revenues of 4.476 billion yen
while it spent 4.52 billion yen -- a 46 million yen deficit that
was blamed on "sluggish marketing" (KYODO NEWS, 6/14).

Sponsor for the Nagano Games in the domestic telecomm category.
NTT will provide state-of-the-art technology services for the
building of networks for voice, data and graphics transmission
(NAGANO OLYMPIC NEWS, 6/95 issue).
