Mets' New Era Begins With Cohen's Ownership A Done Deal

Steve Cohen formally closed on his deal to buy the Mets on Friday and tweeted, “It’s official. We are closed.” Cohen’s long-awaited announcement of the purchase from the Wilpon family "begins a new chapter in which the franchise is expected to spend -- and win -- big." The billionaire hedge fund owner said in a statement, “This is a significant milestone in the history of this storied franchise. ... We’ve got a lot of work to do, so I’m excited to get started. Lets go Mets!” (N.Y. POST, 11/6).

After Cohen's closing, the Mets announced that Exec VP & GM Brodie Van Wagenen was leaving the organization. They also announced the following departures: Special Assistant to the GM Omar Minaya; VP, Assistant GM/Scouting & Player Development Allan Baird; Assistant GM of Systematic Development Adam Guttridge; and Exec Dir of Player Development Jared Banner (Mets).
