Big Ten Still Six Weeks Away From Making Calls On Return

Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren said that the conference is at least six weeks away from making key determinations, and the conference today "extended the hold on all organized team activities, setting June 1 as the new date to re-evaluate." Warren: “We will take the next six weeks to gather the information to make an informed and intelligent decision.” Warren said that he will "lean on the Big Ten’s Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases," which was formed last month (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 5/4).

Meanwhile, the Big Ten announced today that it has "undertaken a league-wide initiative to promote mental health among its student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators." The league in December made public the formation of a Big Ten Mental Health and Wellness Cabinet, a board of 31 representatives from the school's 14 member institutions and affiliate members. As one of the cabinet's first strategies, the league has "purchased the use of the Calm app for its 9,600 student-athletes, as well as its athletic department personnel" (ESPN.com, 5/4).
