The NFL has canceled its five planned international games this year in light of the coronavirus pandemic, the league said today. The league had planned to again play four games in London and one in Mexico City as part of its efforts to find new fans and revenue abroad. Instead, the four teams that had been identified as the home teams for those games -- the Cardinals, Jaguars, Dolphins and Falcons -- will play their games at their home stadiums. A statement said the NFL stadia will allow for “consistent protocols focused on the well-being of players, personnel and fans.”
“After considerable analysis, we believe the decision to play all our games domestically this season is the right one for our players, our clubs, and all our fans in the U.S., Mexico and U.K.,” said NFL Exec VP and Chief Strategy & Growth Officer Chris Halpin. “We greatly appreciate the support of our governmental and stadium partners in Mexico and the United Kingdom, who all agree with this decision, and we look forward to returning for games in both countries in the 2021 season."
