MLS Could Offer Prop Bets Based On Second Spectrum Data

As part of MLS' new partnership with Second Spectrum, league Senior VP/Media Chris Schlosser said that there is an opportunity for MLS to build prop bets on top of the Spectrum player tracking data so fans can engage in real-time, with aspirations to launch later this year. Prop bets could include over/under on a player’s high-speed runs during a match and a shot’s speed, accuracy and distance, among other possibilities.

Schlosser, who spoke to a group of reporters at MLS Media Day, said the league will work with current partner MGM Resorts Int’l on creating a sports betting feed and integrating the tracking information into various fan engagement opportunities. It is still being determined which specific betting companies would have access to the new information provided by Second Spectrum’s system.
