John Davidson Leaves Blue Jackets For Similar Post With Rangers

Blue Jackets President of Hockey Operations John Davidson has stepped down with four years remaining on his contract to "assume a similar role" with the Rangers. The Rangers are "expected to introduce" Davidson, who played for the team and served as a broadcaster, at a news conference on Wednesday. The Blue Jackets "do not plan to hire from the outside to fill Davidson’s role, an indication" that Majority Owner John McConnell and President of Business Operations Mike Priest "believe the hockey operations department is now stable enough to operate without somebody above" GM Jarmo Kekalainen (THEATHLETIC.com, 5/17). Glen Sather retired as Rangers President last month (THE DAILY).
