The 49ers won a significant tax victory with a recent ruling by the Santa Clara County Tax Assessment Appeals Board (AAB) that cut in half the tax obligation the team owed for Levi’s Stadium. “We expect this decision will cause $30.8 million in refunds this year, and a $6 million reduction in taxes collected every year thereafter,” Santa Clara County assessor Lawrence Stone wrote in a memo today preparing for a public hearing on the subject. “The AAB decision was shocking and unexpected. The result will likely have significant financial consequence.” Businesses frequently contest the taxes owed based on the assessed value of physical assets, in this case a stadium. The 49ers could not immediately be reached for comment.
