ESPN Kicks Off "Soccer Stories" Films Tonight With "Hillsborough"

ESPN tonight will air “Hillsborough,” a documentary directed by Daniel Gordon that details the Hillsborough Stadium Disaster during the '89 FA Cup semifinal soccer match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, at 8:00pm ET. The film leads off the net’s “30 for 30: Soccer Stories” series that is airing in the run up to this summer’s FIFA World Cup (ESPN).

The N.Y. TIMES’ Mike Hale writes the film “feels less like a sports film than an Errol Morris-style true-crime investigation.” The AUSTIN CHRONICLE's Nick Barbaro writes "Hillsborough" features "some very moving interviews – both with survivors of the crush, and with policemen who were on duty that day, some of them speaking in public for the first time." WORLDSOCCERTALK.com's Christopher Harris writes Gordon "finally puts all of the key evidence into one emotionally charged and powerful film" that "puts the blame squarely on the shoulders of the police."
