Predators GM David Poile was transported to a St. Paul hospital today after he was "hit in the head with a puck at the team's morning skate" at Xcel Energy Center. Poile also is slated to serve as the GM of Team USA during the Sochi Games (NHL.com, 2/6).

There were "large pockets of empty seats" today at the Sochi Games' skiing venues in Rosa Khotur during men's and women's qualifying for slopestyle snowboarding, "particularly near the beginning and end of the seven-hour session." Weather conditions were "perfect with sunny skies, warm temperatures and not even the hint of a breeze" (AP, 1/6).
