Roger Goodell Says NFL Will Not Suspend Eagles WR Riley Cooper
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell this morning said the league will not suspend Eagles WR Riley Cooper after he was caught on video using a racial epithet at a Kenny Chesney concert. The Eagles yesterday announced they had fined Cooper, and Goodell said the NFL “does not penalize at the club level and the league level for the same incident.” He added he was “glad to see the club stepped up and took decisive action quickly” (“Mike & Mike,” ESPN Radio, 8/1).
The Eagles today announced that Cooper will be “sent for sensitivity training and counseling.” The team in a statement said, “He needs to reflect. As an organization, we will provide the resources he needs to do so” (USATODAY.com, 8/1).
