Pelicans Uniform Unveiling Met With Mostly Tepid Response

The Pelicans today unveiled their new uniforms in a press event featuring several players. The home white and blue away jerseys feature "no sign of the Pelicans logo," only the "city's name on the front ... with some gold trim making its way down the sides" (NBCSPORTS.com, 8/1). The NBA will not allow "any special jersey in year one of their new name," but Pelicans.com writer Jim Eichenhofer said that the team "will unveil an alternate uniform in 2014-15 and a special fourth uniform in 2015-16" (WWLTV.com, 8/1).

USATODAY.com's Sean Highkin writes the uniforms are "kind of boring," and the "execution here is thoroughly underwhelming." ESPN.com's Paul Lukas: "The small 'New Orleans' lettering feels too low-key, almost like the uniform for a high school team. It also creates the odd situation of the players' names on the back of the jerseys being larger than the city name on the front – a possible NBA first."
