Scholarship Reform On Agendas At Both SEC, Big 12 Meetings

The SEC's spring meetings kicked off today in Destin, Fla., where administrators will discuss "providing student-athletes with a 'cost of attendance' scholarship rather than an academic scholarship." Other topics on the agenda will include "future TV deals, bowl alliances, future revenue streams" and the "annual check distributions to the schools." The revenue share for each member institution is "expected to be in the neighborhood" of $20M (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 5/31).

Also today, the Big 12 Conference began meetings in K.C., and the "idea of full cost of scholarship" will be on its agenda as well. But the conference's "big order of business," its $1.1B TV contract with Fox, has already been announced (K.C. STAR, 5/31). Univ. of Texas men's AD DeLoss Dodds said despite dropping from 12 member schools to 10, "our conference now is as strong or stronger than it's ever been" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 5/29).
