SI This Week Features Cover Story On Alabama's Recovery From Tornado

SI this week features Chiefs DB and former Univ. of Alabama football player Javier Arenas standing amid the rubble of his neighborhood following last month's deadly tornado in Tuscaloosa with the copy, "What The Tornado Took." SI senior staff writer Lars Anderson, who taught a sports journalism class at the school this spring, and UA graduate student and Anniston Star intern Allyson Angle for the cover story "interviewed some 40 people -- many of them current or former Crimson Tide athletes -- about their stories of survival and hope." Anderson: "I'm glad I did it for no other reason than to put Tuscaloosa into the national consciousness. It went away after the killing of Osama bin Laden, and the focus on the floods" (AL.com, 5/18).

Meanwhile, golfer K.J. Choi today announced that he will donate $200,000 of his winnings from last week's The Players to the victims of tornado-hit areas in the southeastern states (K.J. Choi Foundation).
