Hawks, Atlanta Reach Deal For $193M Renovation Of Philips Arena

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed today said that the Hawks have reached an agreement with the city to launch a nearly $193M renovation of Philips Arena and "keep the team playing there for decades." Reed indicated the city will put $142.5M toward the project, and the Hawks $50M. Funding for the renovation "will come from an extension" of a car rental tax, generating $110M. Another $12.5M "will come from the sale of Turner Field." The agreement "could keep the Hawks downtown for another 30 years" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 11/1).

World Series Game 6 Ticket Prices Dip Since Cubs' Game 5 Win

By Eric Fisher

The average ticket resale price for tonight’s Cubs-Indians World Series Game 6 in Cleveland has reached $1,562, according to SeatGeek, 15% above where it was at the start of the series last week. But median listing prices have fallen nearly 50% since the Cubs’ win Sunday night in Game 5 forced the series back to Cleveland, and get-in prices are below $650 per ticket, down from about $1,000 early yesterday. Helping fuel the downward pricing trend is a marked increase in ticket supply compared to Games 1-2 last week, also played at Progressive Field.

Figures from ticket data firm Eventellect indicated that overall ticket supply on the secondary market for Games 6-7 is 25% higher than for Games 1-2. SeatGeek data showed 30% of shoppers on its platform for World Series tickets were from greater Chicago, similar to geographic purchase trends on StubHub.

NHL's First Matchup Between McDavid, Matthews Won't Air In U.S.

By Alex Silverman

Tonight's Oilers-Maple Leafs game, which marks the first NHL matchup between No. 1 overall picks Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews, is generating buzz among hockey fans, but will not be televised nationally in the U.S. Instead, NBCSN will carry its previously scheduled Lightning-Islanders game in that time slot. An NBC spokesperson said, "We continue to monitor the progress of the exciting young players on Canadian teams, and will look to add their games when feasible." The network earlier this season added a Bruins-Maple Leafs game to its schedule in a vacant window in response to Matthews' four-goal debut. At the moment, however, McDavid's Oilers are not scheduled to appear on NBC or NBCSN for the remainder of the season, while Matthews' Maple Leafs will appear on New Year's Day in the Centennial Classic outdoor game.

New "30 For 30" Film "Hit It Hard" Explores John Daly's Unique Career

ESPN tonight at 8:00pm ET debuts its latest "30 for 30" film, "Hit It Hard," about golfer John Daly. What makes the documentary "work so well is that it lets Daly's tell-it-like-it-is nature shine as he discusses his meteoric success" after winning the '91 PGA Championship and the "struggle to balance all that came with it" (GOLF WORLD MONDAY, 10/31).

The film is "mostly" about how the media "kept trying to fit Daly into a compelling, familiar narrative, which he’d defy over and over again" (AVCLUB.com, 11/1). Co-directors Gabe Spitzer and Davie Terry Fine "packaged this together well and do a masterful job building empathy and an understanding for Daly" (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 11/1). GOLF.com presents "9 Amazing Facts" revealed in the documentary (GOLF.com, 11/1).
