McFarlane founded WiST as a nonprofit organization in 2017 with the mission to empower growth opportunities for women and employers in the sports tech business. A former CMO and CRO of AI-driven coaching app Mustard and former president of STATSports in North America, McFarlane wanted to change the ratio of women working in the field and build inclusive cultures among sports tech businesses. WiST has provided 75 grants to undergraduate and grad students through its WiST Fellowship program and works with more than 30 corporate partners, including Nike, the NBA, IBM Sports, Stats Perform, Comcast NBCU, Catapult and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee.
