NASCAR’s excellent new show can benefit from added perspective

Editor’s note: This letter is in response to the Oct. 10 Forum column, “‘Race for the Championship’ gives NASCAR its close-up.”

I have been a NASCAR fan all of my life and have been LOVING “Race for the Championship”!! This is a show that has been desperately needed but agree with those who believe the show needs an outside production company. I have spent 20+ years in sports television production including 11 years with NASCAR and know many people who work on this show. This show feels like many other productions/shows they have done in the past. Having camera people the drivers and teams know is a great benefit but an outside company brings a different vision of storytelling and gravitas. The great part of “Drive to Survive” is the outsiders’ perspective. I hope this show continues and finds the success that “Drive to Survive” enjoys.
