Staley has the women’s basketball program at South Carolina into a national juggernaut on the court and off. Her accomplishments over 14 seasons of leading the Gamecocks include two national championships and four Final Fours in the last seven seasons. She has capitalized on the wins by raising the profile of women’s basketball locally and nationally, showing that her teams can be commercially successful as well. Staley’s squads regularly draw as many or more fans than the men’s teams at South Carolina and she has provided the access and exposure that make the players local celebrities. It’s her vision and energy that have elevated women’s basketball to a level once thought unimaginable in Columbia.
