Athletes Unlimited

Patricof, most recently president of NYCFC, and Soros, CEO of investment firm JS Capital Management, sought to put the power in the hands of the athletes while spotlighting women’s sports when they co-founded Athletes Unlimited in 2020. AU runs five leagues across four sports — basketball, lacrosse, softball and volleyball — offers child care benefits to its athletes and makes regular donations to nonprofits chosen by them. A multiyear rights agreement with ESPN for pro softball and lacrosse will see more than 160 live games air exclusively on ESPN platforms over the next two years. They’ve also landed several key corporate sponsors, including Aspiration, which has helped fulfill AU’s commitment to being carbon neutral.
