One of the best-known law firms in the country with a deep list of clients that are among the leading leagues and organizations in sports, Skadden has been active during the pandemic, advising the NHL on the extension of its collective bargaining agreement and the subsequent return to play in July 2020. The firm advised the NBA, NHL, MLS, U.S. Tennis Association, PGA of America and NFL on ticketing issues related to postponements and cancellations, and on the reopening of venues including Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center. As chief IP-litigation counsel to the NFL, Dreyer represented the league and numerous teams on arbitration of matters regarding the return of signing bonuses or other player disputes. Lent represented United Talent Agency in its purchase of a stake in Klutch Sports Group, the formation of a new sports division of UTA and subsequent acquisitions of other agencies. Mishkin (who is joining Phillips ADR at the end of the year, but remaining of counsel to Skadden through 2023), Dreyer, Brill and Hartmann represented Bruce Sherman as part of an investor group in the $1.2 billion acquisition of the Miami Marlins, and the PGA Tour in connection with the sale of its affiliate EZLinks Golf Holdings to NBC Sports Group. Martino represented the NHL in litigation brought by retired players regarding the long-term effects of concussions and on the lease of the league’s headquarters in Manhattan
