Karp, the firm’s longtime chair and the driving force behind its sports practice, and Wells guided the NFL to a class-action settlement that established a fund to compensate retired players who suffer from serious degenerative conditions connected to traumatic brain injuries. Wells, known for his work in investigations for leagues and organizations regarding workplace conduct and leadership and business practices, and Toal also represented IMG College in its merger with Learfield. Major League Baseball is a prominent Paul, Weiss client with Toal leading the way on the dismissal of a $1 billion damages claim in a nationwide antitrust class-action challenging the MLB’s broadcast structure and out-of-market packages. Yarrett represents MLB in ongoing issuances by its leaguewide borrowing facility of securities backed by national media revenue. And Goldman has represented MLB in its investments in Rawlings and Fanatics.
