Power Players: DLA Piper

Peter White, Partner, Global Co-Chair, Media, Sport and Entertainment Sector

Mark Whitaker, Partner

Richard Rubano, Partner

DLA piper is widely known for its relationships in the industry, with White, Whitaker and Rubano leading the way. They recently represented Ted Segal in his purchase of a majority stake in the Houston Dynamo and Dash, AS Roma in the sale of its controlling interest to The Friedkin Group, and Ares Capital Management in its $150 million equity investment in Inter Miami. Those deals illustrate the three major facets of DLA Piper’s practice — full buy-side deal, full sell-side deal and substantial limited partner investment (including the involvement of private equity investors). The firm’s sports practice is led by White, who has been active in the acquisition, development and financing of stadiums and arenas for teams across MLB and in the NFL, NBA and NHL, in addition to representing the Chargers in their move to Los Angeles. Whitaker and Rubano are past SBJ Forty Under 40 honorees.
