Dr. Allen Sills

Chief Medical Officer, National Football League

Hainline led the NCAA’s decision to cancel the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments in mid-March and for much of 2020, he and Sills have been at the forefront of their organizations’ responses to COVID-19. That’s centered around implementing testing standards and contact tracing plans for players and staff, handling positive cases and managing through game postponements and cancellations, all while continuing to press forward with live games. Their counterparts in the NBA and NHL, Dr. Leroy Sims and Dr. Willem Meeuwisse, respectively, instituted safety protocols for each league’s months-long bubble setup, resulting in no positive player tests from the hub cities and ultimately, successfully completing the season. — Mark J.
