Libby Geist reflects on ESPN career

Libby Geist joined ESPN 12 years ago as an associate producer, where she worked with Bill Simmons, Connor Schell, John Dahl and Dan Silver in launching the much-heralded “30 for 30” series.

Last week, Geist told colleagues that she was leaving the company after overseeing 130 sports documentaries and seven seasons worth of the “30 for 30” podcast. I asked the vice president and executive producer of ESPN Films and Original Content what stood out most in her 12-year ESPN career.

“A moment for me was launching ‘Nine for IX’ — that series of nine documentaries by female filmmakers,” she said. “Obviously, the O.J. SImpson project was a true career and life changer — such an incredible experience and so rewarding. I honestly feel ‘The Last Dance’ is such a great way to leave here. Winning the prime-time Emmy and becoming a cultural moment was such a source of pride. I feel really good about my contributions here. I’m going to look around for other mountains to climb.”
