The National Women’s Soccer League agreed to a new multiyear media rights deal with CBS Sports Network and Twitch that gives some stability to the league, which kicks off its eighth season on April 18. The league will play two games on CBS and 14 on CBS Sports Network, plus stream 71 on CBS All-Access.

Modell’s Sporting Goods, a well-respected family-owned chain that has been in existence since 1889, filed for bankruptcy and will close its 115 stores, which are located in the Northeast. Competitors including Sports Authority and Eastern Mountain Sports announced similar moves in recent years. Dick’s Sporting Goods has dominated the shrinking retail environment in the space.

2K, Take 2

Video game manufacturer 2K Games landed an NFL licensing agreement, but it will not be allowed to make an NFL simulation, an arrangement that is exclusive to EA Sports, maker of the popular Madden franchise. The future plans for 2K, which last released an NFL game in 2004, will be worth watching.
