Could not go a day without: I carry a paper notebook and pen with me pretty much everywhere I go. It’s great for ideating, taking notes, and keeping my thoughts in order.
Most common misperception of your generation: People assume millennials refuse to save and build financial equity toward retirement. However, I find that my generation is often focused on developing their own skills and building human capital.
Go-to person when you need help: Patti and Marvin Demoff have always been a constant source of advice and guidance since I was 16 years old. Their wisdom and anecdotes from lives lived around sports have been great guideposts for my career.
In 10 years I hope to be … : A leader who has emulated his mentors in helping individuals who enter the industry reach their goals.
When I first got my start in esports, we spent our time sleeping on the floors of motel rooms, cooking lots of canned beans, and hoping that our sponsors paid us on time (if at all). The fact I’m able to have a career working and building esports continues to be the biggest blessing of my career.
In the industry
Most exciting aspect of sports business: I’m currently fascinated with the exponential growth of the digital experience and leveraged use of digital memorabilia. I’m convinced that for the next generation (Gen Z and beyond), these two spaces will play a key role in growing the overall sports business.
Questions for networking: What has captured your imagination recently? I’d love to hear about what people are working on and what problems are top of mind for them.
How should sports address social issues? Sports occupy a special position of power and influence in our society. We should continue to encourage the discourse of our colleagues’ varied voices.
