Seeley’s background as a federal prosecutor and current role as the head of MLB’s investigative unit say much about the league’s initial approach to the rollout of legal sports betting. Appearing in front of state legislators, he has pressed hard for regulators to require sportsbooks to share betting records with the leagues as a deterrent to illegal activity. That call for cooperation has been matched on the commercial side by Gersh, whose pitch to sportsbooks has been that they can build a better product if they work in tandem with the league. Of late, that has resonated, with Fox Bet, FanDuel and DraftKings joining MGM as official providers.
