College football’s 150th season got off to a strong ratings start. Auburn’s win over Oregon drew a 52% increase in viewers on ABC vs. the same window last year, ESPN’s Week 1 prime-time game between Georgia and Vanderbilt had its most viewers in three years, and Fox’s noon kickoff was up 91% this year for Ohio State vs. Florida Atlantic.

The NHL elected not to opt out of its current collective-bargaining agreement by the Sept. 1 deadline, raising hopes that the league will avoid a work stoppage. The NHLPA has until Sept. 15 to decide whether it will do the same, which would cause the agreement to expire next year rather than in 2022.
