FLAME BUILDERS

Calgary’s city council approved a 35-year financial agreement between the city and Calgary Sports and Entertainment for a new arena for the Flames that will replace Scotiabank Saddledome and keep the NHL team in town for decades to come. The city will own the building and CSE will pay a facility fee of 2% on every ticket sold.

BAD CALL

A New Orleans judge ruled that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and three officials from last year’s NFC Championship Game can be questioned as part of a fraud lawsuit brought by local attorney Tony LeMon on behalf of Saints season-ticket holders that seeks $75,000 in damages. Nothing will change the result of the game, and it is likely to do little more than waste time in pursuit of learning more about a judgment call that came down to human error.

NEW HQ?

FIFA reportedly is considering moving its headquarters out of Zurich, Switzerland, where it has been since 1932, because it has had difficulty hiring people outside Europe and because it is still trying to distance itself from a massive corruption scandal that led to the 2015 arrests of several top officials. There is no timeline for a decision.
