The Little League will have its first Home Run Derby in both baseball and softball this summer, with regional competitions leading to eight players taking part in the event at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., in August. The event’s major league version is hugely popular, and this is a smart way to do the same for kids whom the sport is trying to reach.

Crowning Blow

Kentucky Derby favorite Omaha Beach was scratched just days before the 145th Run for the Roses because of a breathing problem that will require minor surgery. The horse will not race in the Preakness or the Belmont Stakes either, another blow for a sport that had built momentum with two Triple Crown winners since 2015 but has dealt with the ongoing problem of horse fatalities at Santa Anita Park.

The Overwatch League’s Dallas Fuel last weekend hosted the first home matches in the league’s history, a much-anticipated step forward. However, logistics will still have to be ironed out for the popular, global league to be able to replicate that performance with consistently strong results.
