Voices of Diversity: Sean Pyun

Vice President and Managing Director, LPGA Asia

LPGA Golf Wear

Define diversity to you; why is it important? Having employees from diverse cultural backgrounds is important for every organization and it’s also very helpful today now that business has become so global. I also think it’s just as important for organizations to have a culture and working environment where people are willing and able to speak their minds with a variety of genders, nationalities, orientations, etc., represented.

Your opportunities in sports: There were various internships and positions available that required knowledge and understanding of specific culture(s). I started with the LPGA in Player Services, working in player development with our international players, and now I oversee our LPGA Asia office and many of our international business relationships.

Opportunities missing in sports: I am not sure if it’s fair to say that the opportunities are lacking in sports compared to other industries, but I do think there is a point to be made about the lack of diversity in positions of leadership overall. The LPGA has strived to create diversity within our organization and most don’t know that the majority of the members on our Board of Directors and our Executive Leadership team are women.
