Forty Under 40: Frank Saviano
This past year, Frank Saviano rose to the ranks of partner at Proskauer, a promotion he calls humbling and rewarding. The move makes Saviano the only partner under the age of 40 in the firm’s Sports Law Group — an indicator of his rapidly increasing influence within the industry.
Saviano, who was also a Forty Under 40 honoree in 2015, has become the de facto lawyer in media rights deals for sports properties. The aggregate value of the sports media rights deals he has worked on in his career is more than $15 billion. “Frank has a remarkable intellect, excellent judgment, high level of skill and strong ability to maintain good relationships on both sides of the table,” Proskauer Chair Joe Leccese said. “Those attributes correlate to success in sports, law and most other aspects of life.”
Over the past two years, Saviano has taken a lead role in representing several properties. He assisted Bruin Sports Capital in its acquisition of Deltatre, a sports-focused digital media company based in Italy. He helped facilitate the Detroit Pistons’ relocation from the Palace of Auburn Hills to Little Caesars Arena in downtown. He was also key outside counsel for MLS’s corporate and media transactions that included a digital media rights agreement with Facebook for the distribution of games via Facebook Live.
“One of the more rewarding experiences I’ve had here is representing Major League Soccer,” Saviano said. “We really are their primary outside counsel for everything, and I’ve been one of their go-to corporate attorneys for anything that is commercial in nature.
“When you can be involved with a client, doing all of their transactions, you can get to know their industry and get to know them. Hopefully they feel that I’ve been able to make a contribution to their business in a positive way.”
