Chiefs expect increase in fans using mobile ticketing

The Kansas City Chiefs expect to nearly double the number of fans this upcoming season who use mobile ticketing.

Last season, about 40 percent of the stadium’s 76,416 seats were filled with fans who used mobile ticketing. That figure should rise to the 70 percent range, said Mark Donovan, team president.

The team is doubling to over 4,000 the number of tickets available for the Bud Light Game Day pass. Debuting last year, these are mobile-only tickets sent the morning of a game and cost $200 for a season. Beyond that, the club will heavily promote overall digital ticketing options in an effort to get the figure to the 70 percent level.

“One of the owners said this the other day in the [annual] meeting: We have to catch up to the airlines, they do this for security, they know who is on the plane,” Donovan said.

Mobile ticketing is cheaper than mailing tickets, but more importantly it provides the team valuable data that paper tickets cannot. “We will take all that data and know who is in the building,” Donovan said.

The Chiefs also offer a plastic ticket card and expect some fans to retain that option. However, the team’s goal is to significantly reduce the number of printed and paper tickets.
