Fair appraisal of ESPN a welcome exposition

Hats off to you for such a comprehensive and fair appraisal of where ESPN is in their business evolution (SBJ June 26-July 2 issue). Tuned in as I like to think I am, your article gave facts and figures I had not seen and shed a very clear light on where ESPN is and hopes to be. Many may not agree with their strategy, but your article was top-notch in exposition.

The only thing missing is an explanation for the Longhorn Network. We joke in the industry that we’d like to have been in the room to know when someone thought that was a good idea.

And it is inarguable (ask Larry Scott, David Boren, Texas A&M and many others) that the decision for Texas and ESPN to launch that network drastically affected the college landscape for at least 10-15 years.

That said, thank you from all your readers for such a well-researched and powerful assessment of the “State of ESPN.”
