Golf Channel adds pair of new distribution deals

Golf Channel is expanding into Japan through two distribution agreements. Over-the-top provider Abema and the pay-TV network Wowow will carry the channel’s programming, which now is available in 73 countries.

Channel executives consider these deals significant, as Japan hosts the 2020 Olympics, which will include a golf competition.

The Abema TV deal includes LPGA and European Tour programming, plus shoulder programming like “Golf Central,” “The Golf Fix” and “Golf Channel Academy.”

The Wowow deal includes all North American LPGA events and some original programming.
