Why listing names now is essentially useless

I have heard about a number of well-known executives who told Fox that they will take a buyout and leave the company in May. But I haven’t reported on any of those names yet.

Here’s why.

Both the company and the employees are in the middle of a six-week period where they can change their minds. Fox may deem an employee too valuable to lose and rescind the buyout offer. Or an employee may decide to roll the dice and reject the offer, betting that he or she can make it past a round of layoffs that many expect will come.

Right now, nobody knows exactly who is staying and who is leaving, making any list of departing executives essentially useless. That should change by mid-April, when Fox will know exactly who is taking the package and who is staying.

Most of the employees who told Fox at the end of February that they will take the package likely will leave. Only a handful are expected to stay.

Staffers who have been at Fox for at least 15 years or are 55 years and older were offered one month’s pay for every year of employment.
