Evian opens the floodgates, takes Wawrinka endorsement worldwide

Evian is expanding its Switzerland-only endorsement deal with tennis star Stan Wawrinka to a global sponsorship.

WAWRINKA
The company plans to feature Wawrinka through social media channels and use his image on bottles, said Lawrence Frankopan, founder and CEO of StarWing Sports, which represents the Swiss star, who won this year’s French Open.

The larger deal with Wawrinka expands Evian’s presence in tennis, where the French water company sponsors Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and has an endorsement deal with Maria Sharapova.

For Wawrinka, also the 2014 Australian Open champion, the new deal is part of an endorsement surge. He has agreed to extend his deal with Yonex through 2020 with an agreement to serve as an ambassador for the brand after his playing days, and he’s signed a deal to sponsor Lyria trains, the high-speed train service connecting France and Switzerland.

Wawrinka has had the Swiss-only deal with Evian since 2013.
