Shoes get printer’s help

New Balance will launch the first high-performance running shoe with a 3-D printed midsole. The limited-edition shoe will launch first in Boston in April. The shoes also will be on display and in use by employees in the 3D Systems booth at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

DIS boosting Wi-Fi, enhancing app

Daytona International Speedway announced several new technology enhancements as part of the $400 million Daytona Rising project, according to a (Daytona Beach) News-Journal report. Fans will be able to connect to Wi-Fi systems with the help of Arris Group and experience a new and improved mobile app to navigate the facility.

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL
Bank’s Wild deal includes fan activities

The Minnesota Wild and Associated Bank have a new partnership for the 2015-16 season. Fans can visit the Associated Bank Power Play Zone at Excel Energy Arena, where they will have the opportunity to score on an unprotected or “shorthanded” goal. A series of photos will be taken to produce a GIF of the fan in action and emailed to them.

NEW ORLEANS
Saints, Pelicans get Venyu assist

Baton Rouge, La.-based data center and cloud services provider Venyu reached partnerships with the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans. Venyu will provide disaster recovery hosting, firewall protection, virtualization and ethernet connectivity.

Magic, Southwest trade places

The Orlando Magic’s Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton, Magic dancers, Stuff the Magic Mascot and other staff members assisted Southwest Airlines passengers at Orlando International Airport on Nov. 19. This was the third straight year the Magic “traded places” with Southwest employees. Southwest employees attended the Nov. 18 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves and helped with game operations and giveaways.

Penn Medicine sponsoring Love Run

Precision Sports Entertainment renewed terms with University of Pennsylvania Health System to become a sponsor of the 2016 Love Run, a half marathon held in Philadelphia in April. Penn Medicine will receive category exclusivity, Internet exposure, display space and promotional opportunities.

Sobrato gift supports USF athletics

Silicon Valley philanthropist and real estate developer John Sobrato and his wife, Susan, made a gift of $15 million to the University of San Francisco, the largest gift from individuals in the institution’s history. The gift will support USF’s first master plan for athletic facilities. A multiuse facility will be named The Sobrato Center.

Event signs Ak-Chin Indian Community

The Ak-Chin Indian Community signed on as the local presenting sponsor of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, starting with the 2016 tournament and running through 2020. The Ak-Chin Indian Community is the first local presenting sponsor in the history of the annual tournament at TPC Scottsdale.

Blues help to boost youth hockey

The St. Louis Blues announced a grassroots initiative called Hockey STL 2020, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report. The team hopes to have 125,000 kids in St. Louis playing ball hockey and 5,000 suiting up for ice hockey by 2020. The organization will commit $2 million to hockey-related programs in the region.

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment is inviting fans to enter a contest to spend one night in a cabin-like hotel room that will be temporarily installed in one of Air Canada Centre’s executive box suites, according to a Toronto Star report. MLSE is advertising the room on AirBnB. MLSE will choose the winner for the Jan. 23-24 event based on his or her application essay — a written submission that can’t exceed 550 characters.

Global daily fantasy football platform Oulala.com is the official fantasy football partner of Premier League side Leicester City. It is the first partnership established by Oulala with an EPL club.

MLB games possible in 2017

The operators of the Olympic Stadium are in advanced negotiations to stage the first Major League Baseball game in Europe, according to a (London) Telegraph report. Talks have taken place over bringing a series of MLB games to the London 2012 centerpiece, potentially as early as 2017.

Knights, NSW Mining extend deal

National Rugby League side Newcastle Knights and NSW Mining agreed to a three-year extension of their partnership. The flagship element of the agreement, the Voice for Mining Family Day, will again be the highlight of the 2016 NRL season.

Mayor confident in security effort

Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes expressed confidence in security for next year’s Olympics but was also cautious in the wake of the attacks in Paris, according to an AP report. The report quoted Paes: “We have to worry. … This can happen anywhere and we are going to take good care of the security of the Olympic Games.”
