For his next book, a darker subject

In his spare time, Buster Olney writes a book every few years. First came his account of the 2001 New York Yankees and their loss in the seventh game of the World Series. In 2010, he published a true-life inspirational story about small-college basketball coach Don Meyer, who became the sport’s career wins leader despite suffering a near-death car wreck and a subsequent diagnosis of terminal cancer. (Meyer died last year.)

His next project takes a much darker turn — and takes him back to his small Vermont hometown. A close childhood friend of Olney’s became a pedophile and was convicted of murder in 2014. The man buried the body of the girl he killed 400 yards from the doorstep of the farm where Olney grew up.

Olney is working with the convicted man’s sister on the book and hopes to finish it in the next year or two.
