L.A. bid puts U.S. out of race for ’26

The Los Angeles 2024 bid for the Summer Olympics will stop any consideration of the U.S. hosting the 2026 Winter Games, the U.S. Olympic Committee says.

The International Olympic Committee will vote on Los Angeles in September 2017. Win or lose, by then it would be too late to start organizing a 2026 bid. “We’re only considering Los Angeles and bidding for the 2024 Olympic Games,” USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky said.

Politicians in Salt Lake City, Denver and elsewhere had expressed preliminary interest in hosting the ’26 Winter Games.
