Maxx Sports & Entertainment signs Brand for broadcasting

Elton Brand, recently retired from an NBA career that included All-Star and Rookie of the Year honors, has signed with Maxx Sports & Entertainment for broadcasting representation.

New York-based Maxx specializes in working with broadcasters. Agency President Mark Lepselter and vice president Michael Klein will represent Brand.

“He has just recently retired, so he is figuring out what he wants to do,” Lepselter said. “He has the luxury of taking his time to do so because he doesn’t have to do anything. But as he delves into the broadcasting world, we will be handling those interests.”

Brand announced his retirement last month after 16 seasons in the NBA, playing for the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks.

Brand was a member of the 1998-99 Duke basketball team that went 37-2 but lost the national championship game 77-74 to Connecticut. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 draft.

Lepselter said that with Brand’s background, he will look for work for Brand as both a game and studio analyst for college basketball as well as for the NBA. “He is a charismatic guy, an absolute gentleman and his reputation precedes him,” Lepselter said.

Lepselter said he has had several conversations with networks about Brand. “A big part of what we are looking for will have to fit within his personal life as well,” he said. Brand lives in the Philadelphia area.

Brand was represented on the court by David Falk.

Maxx also has signed free agent Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs, who has played his entire career with the Chicago Bears, for broadcast representation. Briggs is represented for on-field work by Drew Rosenhaus, who wrote in a text last week that he was working on getting Briggs a job in the NFL for this season.

Lepselter said, “We have a couple of things lined up if he doesn’t hook on with a team, and those things are both NFL and college.” Briggs, who played at the University of Arizona before being picked by the Bears in the third round of the 2003 draft, has done analysis on weekly studio shows for Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
