NBA, Nike figuring out a place for Jumpman in deal

NBA officials are in discussions with Nike over how the company’s Jordan Brand Jumpman logo will be folded into the league’s new apparel deal.

The eight-year, $1 billion deal between Nike and the NBA takes effect with the 2017-18 season. As part of the deal, Nike’s swoosh will appear on the front of NBA teams’ jerseys.

“We are still working through it,” said Emilio Collins, executive vice president of global marketing partnerships for the NBA. “There are a lot of different options we are considering. [Jordan Brand] will have some presence within the new deal. We are just trying to figure out the best way to be showcased.”

Jordan Brand has deals with major college basketball programs such as Georgetown, Michigan and North Carolina that puts the Jumpman logo on game jerseys.

Collins would not be specific about where or how the Jumpman logo might appear within the NBA.

“It could be around special events,” Collins said. “We are working through it all now.”
