Legacy Agency expands fan fest at Cactus League

The Legacy Agency next month will stage a second and much larger version of Baseball City, an interactive fan festival in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Designed to tie into the popular Cactus League spring training games, the March 7-8 event at the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall also represents a move by the New York-based agency to expand its presence in live event creation and production.

Similar to the MLB All-Star FanFest, Baseball City will feature skills clinics, batting cages, collectors’ showcases, live entertainment and meet-and-greets.

Last year’s event drew about 6,500 at the Phoenix Convention Center. The new site moves the event closer to several spring training sites, and officials are hoping to attract 10,000 visitors this year.

The Legacy Agency also is working on an expansion next year of the Baseball City concept to Florida to tie into the Grapefruit League.

“Outside of the All-Star Game, there really isn’t a show like this anywhere for fans, so we see a great amount of opportunity with this event,” said Mike McCarthy, The Legacy Agency head of media consulting.

The agency has sold a presenting sponsorship to the city of Scottsdale and Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau, plus deals to Steiner Sports, Lids, Kind Snacks, Schutt Sports and Uber.
