NASCAR moves VP Seigler to business development role

On the heels of Medallion Financial plucking sales executive Sean Downes away from NASCAR, the sanctioning body has named Chad Seigler vice president of business development to fill Downes’ role.

SEIGLER
Currently NASCAR vice president of team marketing, Seigler will report to Jim O’Connell, senior vice president and chief sales officer. His first day in the new position will be Feb. 9.

Seigler shifts from an industry services role where he helped take care of existing teams and tracks to one where he will court brands and other potential sponsors in a bid to generate new revenue. The move comes as NASCAR is seeking to replace longtime series sponsor Sprint after its deal expires in 2016.

Brent Dewar, chief operating officer of NASCAR, said of Seigler: “Being on the revenue side of the model … has been his expertise, and he’s exceptionally good at that. So his background lends him to this assignment, which is the ability to go in and meet with Fortune 50, C-suite folks.”

Dewar said NASCAR is just beginning its search for Sprint’s replacement. Key players in that search will be Seigler, O’Connell, Dewar and Steve Phelps, NASCAR’s executive vice president and CMO.
