In February, every TV network head in the U.S. was making a run for the NFL’s package of Thursday night games. The league opted to sell them to McManus, the elder statesman among sports TV executives, making CBS the only network with two highly rated NFL packages to go along with TV’s top-rated college football package with the SEC. The NFL’s decision shows the high regard McManus — and boss Les Moonves — hold across sports.
