Major League Lacrosse to boost TV coverage through new deal with CBS Sports Network

Major League Lacrosse has signed an agreement with CBS Sports Network that will give the outdoor league significantly more coverage on TV than it’s had in the past.

The contract for 2012 will provide 14 live games on CBS Sports Network, which is now in 44 million U.S. homes.

The 14 live games will give the eight-team league a total of 20 live games overall. MLL has a six-game package that runs on ESPN2. The league’s all-star game and championship game also were carried on ESPN2 last season, and talks are ongoing about a similar arrangement for 2012.

MLL Commissioner David Gross called the new TV deal with CBS’s cable channel “a tremendous step forward for the growth of MLL and for lacrosse in general.”

Recently rebranded after being CBS College Sports for years, CBS Sports Network also will carry 18 editions of MLL’s weekly magazine show, “Inside the MLL.” The 30-minute show debuted last year on MLL’s website, providing a behind-the-scenes look at teams, players and coaches.

The season runs from May through August.
