as early as this year.

Longhorn net to launch in ’11
University of Texas Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds said the Longhorn Network will launch in 2011 and may even have a soft start later this year. Dodds made it clear that the school is putting up no money to launch the network. Financing will come from IMG and the cable partner selected to operate the venture.

Perkins out; Anderson arrives
University of Kansas Athletic Director Lew Perkins agreed to resign immediately instead of retire in September 2011 as originally planned. Meanwhile, the University of Maryland introduced Kevin Anderson as its new AD. He has held the same post at Army since 2004.

ESPN picks international exec
ESPN hired Ross Hair, formerly Sony Pictures Television’s executive vice president of Europe networks, to be its managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Hair will replace Lynne Frank later this year. Frank is returning to America for family reasons.

Names in the news
The NBA is opening its new Moscow office by naming Egor Borisov as NBA vice president of development for Russia and Eastern Europe. He had been managing director of NBC Universal in Russia.
The AFL hired Stuart Layne as chief marketing and revenue officer. He had operated his own sports marketing agency called Seven 2 Sports Marketing.
