Daron Rahlves

The name is a familiar one but the sport is not. After years of burning the competition on the downhill course, Rahlves made the transition to skiercross after Torino. The sport, which is known for its high-speed crashes, makes its debut in Vancouver and Rahlves has a chance to medal.

Despite being in the offbeat sport of skeleton, Pikus-Pace carries a strong back story: She missed the Torino Games after getting whacked by a bobsled in a training accident, fought back to win the 2007 world championship, and took last season off to have a baby. Lots of emotion there.
Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker
Sport: Figure skating pair
Agent: Janey Miller, Octagon
This duo aren’t household names yet, but they embody the best U.S. hope for a Vancouver medal in the showcase sport. McLaughlin, 16, has teen girl marketing potential. Brubaker, 22, has heartthrob looks.
Kevin Pearce

The 20-year-old upstart pushed well-known star Shaun White to prove himself at the 2009 X Games with the biggest air of the competition, soaring 19 feet out of the halfpipe. He’s got a year to improve and has already inspired many to wonder if he can best White on the world stage.

Sport: Alpine skiing

The Midwesterner just keeps winning and winning, and she has a marvelous smile and down-home personality that makes her success even more endearing. Expect her friendly rivalry with fellow U.S. Ski team member and Torino gold medalist Julia Mancuso to get plenty of promotion, as well.
