Longtime PR exec Higdon to head LPGA department

The LPGA this week will introduce longtime sports PR executive David Higdon as its first chief communications officer. Higdon begins immediately and is responsible for building a strategic communications plan among the tour’s various constituents.

“My early focus is to strengthen business and international media relations, and internal communications among players, tournaments, sponsors and groups like the USGA and PGA Tour,” Higdon said.

He becomes the sixth member of the LPGA management committee, giving the communications department its first seat on the management committee. The rest of the seven-member communications staff and their roles remain intact.

Higdon led communications for the Champ Car World Series during its unification with the IndyCar Series in 2008. He was at the ATP for eight years prior, where he managed global communications. He also has held various journalistic roles.
