Dick Glover’s former duties as NASCAR’s vice president of broadcasting and new media are being redistributed as part of an overall shake-up of the NASCAR Media Group, which was formed late last year by its president, Paul Brooks.
Glover left NASCAR in early January to become CEO for Will Ferrell’s fledgling Funny or Die Networks, a celebrity and user-generated video content Web site.
The new media and content responsibilities will be added to those already on Jay Abraham’s plate. Abraham, who has run NASCAR Images for the last six years, has been promoted to chief operating officer of the NASCAR Media Group, which includes Images, and vice president of new media and content. He’ll be the primary contact for NASCAR’s relationships with DirecTV, MRN, PRN and Sirius, among others.
Robbie Weiss, formerly managing director of NASCAR’s international division, has been promoted to vice president of broadcasting, making him the day-to-day contact for NASCAR’s broadcast partners Fox, ABC/ESPN, Speed and TNT. Before joining NASCAR, Weiss handled programming and production at Broadband Sports and was a senior manager for broadcasting at the NFL. Abraham and Weiss will report to Brooks.
Additionally, NASCAR has created a job of vice president, entertainment and marketing, that will manage the Los Angeles office. That position, which will report to chief marketing officer Steve Phelps, has not been filled yet.
Marc Jenkins also has been moved to managing director, business operations and strategy, in the Charlotte office.
